About Us


Garland Animal Clinic is a well-established, full-service, small animal veterinary hospital providing comprehensive medical, surgical, and dental care.

We provide a broad spectrum of diagnostic procedures through in-house testing and the use of external laboratories. We also work closely with referral practices when special diagnostics or procedures are required. We strive to offer not only sound advice, but also optimal veterinary care, thus allowing you the enjoyment of your companion for a maximum number of years. Our job is not only to treat your pet when he or she isn't feeling well, but also to help you learn how to keep your best friend happy and healthy.




Our History


Garland Animal Clinic was established in 1966. Dr. Boharski and Dr. Weber took over the practice in 1999. In spring of 2017, they built a brand new location several blocks down the street with state-of-the-art equipment and three times the space!

For over 50 years, they have continued the excellence in care and compassion that has made Garland Animal Clinic one of the largest, most comprehensive clinics in Spokane. We look forward to providing excellent, compassionate care and great service for years to come.

Our Philosophy


At Garland Animal Clinic we always strive to provide the best veterinary care available to our patients and the best customer service to our clients. We offer the most thorough, up to date diagnostic, medical, dental and surgical care available.

We provide compassionate and humane care for our patients and their owners. We work with owners and our extensive resource of referral services to maintain the highest level of care available. Our staff is constantly involved with continuing education to ensure our up to date status.

Cat Friendly


The Cat Friendly Practice® program is designed to elevate care for cats by reducing the stress for the cat, caregiver, and also the entire veterinary team. Garland Animal Clinic is proud to be a Cat Friendly Practice®  offering:

  • A feline-only exam room
  • Feline-only kennel room in quiet, low-traffic area
  • Feline-only entrance & waiting area
  • Designated cat advocates with special interests in feline patients & continued educational requirements
  • Our staff is trained specifically in gentle handling of feline patients to decrease stress


Our Staff


Doctors Steve Boharski and April Weber have owned the Garland Animal Clinic since 1999, opening the new hospital in spring of 2017. Doctors Saundra Taylor, Carrie Grace, Brianne Sorensen, Brooke Cummings, and our staff of certified technicians, receptionists, and assistants complete our veterinary team. Our combined veterinary experience of over 85 years ensures a competent and complete workup for your pet. Our doctors share their experience and expertise with one another to ensure your pet gets the thorough and consistent care. Our dedicated, long-term staff will always give you and your pet the best care available.

Steve Boharski, DVM

Steve Boharski, DVM

Dr. BO grew up in Montana, attended Montana State University and earned a degree in biology. He taught high school for 5 years in Montana and Alaska before deciding to pursue his career in veterinary medicine. He attended Oregon State University and Washington State University Colleges of Veterinary Medicine. He met Dr. Weber as a classmate and they were married shortly after graduating. They practiced in Las Vegas, NV for six years before deciding to return to the Pacific Northwest. Garland Animal Clinic was a great fit for them. They purchased it and eventually moved it to its new location.

They have four children whos faces are often seen working at the clinic, Andrew who is attending MSU, Jared a senior at Mead High School, Emma a freshman at Mead and Dani a 7th grader at St Thomas More. In addition they have horses, dogs, cats, rabbits, and occasional other pets in the mix.

Dr. BO loves hiking, flyfishing, spending time at the lake and bird hunting with his German Wire Haired Pointer, Jake. Jake also has a part time job greeting clients and patients at the clinic.

With the great crew at Garland Animal Clinic he is passionate about practicing high quality, comprehensive and compassionate care. He enjoys challenging medical and surgical cases and performs most of the orthopedic surgeries. Providing long term care for generations of pets and families at Garland Animal Clinic has been the foundation of his career. He is also involved in service organizations and contributes regularly to church and charities.
April Weber-Boharski, DVM

April Weber-Boharski, DVM

Dr. April Weber was raised in Las Vegas, NV. She attended University of Neveda Reno for undergrad where she obtained bachelor degrees in Veterinary Science and Animal Science. She is a 1993 graduate of Oregon State / Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine.



She and Dr. Steve Boharski practiced in Las Vegas for 6 years prior to purchasing Garland Animal Clinic in 1999. While she enjoys animals of all shapes and sizes, she has a special interest in exotics.



Dr. Weber is a mother of four children and has a special needs pug named Stella as well as other horses, dogs, cats and rabbits. In her free time she enjoys yoga, horseback riding, and gardening.

Saundra Taylor, DVM

Saundra Taylor, DVM

Dr. Taylor graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics in 1988 and then went on to attend veterinary school at Washington State University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1992 with her DVM degree. She joined Garland Animal Clinic in July 1996 after having practiced for several years in Iowa and Michigan.

She and her husband and two sons enjoy camping, hiking, ATV riding and spending time at the lake. She loves working with all the different breeds and personalities of dogs and cats that we see every day and has a particular special affinity for labs.
Carrie Grace, DVM

Carrie Grace, DVM

Dr. Carrie Grace was born and raised in Spokane, Washington. She obtained her undergraduate and DVM degrees from Washington State University. Dr. Grace has been at Garland Animal Clinic since 1999 where she primarily treats cats and dogs and has special interests in internal medicine, oncology, and soft tissue surgery.

Dr. Grace and her husband jokingly call their family the Brady Bunch as they each brought 3 kids to the family when they married in 2011.

In their spare time they enjoy spending time with their family and their dog, Wallace. They also enjoy camping and boating in the beautiful Inland Northwest as well as sailing in exotic places.
Brianne Sorensen, DVM

Brianne Sorensen, DVM

Dr. Sorensen is a born and raised Spokane native. Since she can remember Dr. Sorensen had always wanted to be a veterinarian and work with animals. She grew up showing horses in 4-H and has experience ranging from pocket pets to working with cattle.

She earned her Bachelors Degree in Animal Science Pre-Vet from Washington State University before attending veterinary school. Dr. Sorensen graduated from Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2015.

Her hobbies include rock climbing, hiking, horseback riding, running, camping and cooking! She resides in Spokane with her husband, Auston and son, Luke. They have an English Setter named Jackie Blue.
Brooke Cummings, DVM

Brooke Cummings, DVM

Dr. Cummings grew up in Eastern Washington. She attended Washington State University earning a degree in Animal Science prior to attending Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Cummings practiced for several years in Iowa, Montana, and Idaho before moving to Spokane and joining Garland Animal Clinic in 2017.

She and her husband have two children. Her son is attending the University of Northwestern Ohio majoring in High Performance Automotive and her daughter is in her first year at Eastern Washington University majoring in Pre-Med.

The Cummings family includes two Boxers, one longhair cat, one terrorist cat, and two horses. She and her husband enjoy camping, rally racing, and photography.
Breana Holmstrom - Hospital Manager & LVT

Breana Holmstrom - Hospital Manager & LVT

Born and raised in Spokane, Breana moved to Colorado in 2008. She attended college in the Pikes Peak Region and then The Colorado Academy of Veterinary Technology. She initially focused her training on veterinary dentistry and taught at the nearby colleges. Moving to a smaller town a couple years later brought on some large animal and mobile veterinary experience. She’s now working towards her Certificate in Veterinary Practice Management.

She always knew she wanted to work in the veterinary field, it's like it was just meant to be. She recently moved back to the PNW with her husband Alek and son Elijah, and has been working at Garland Animal Clinic ever since.

They have two playful cats and two dogs. She loves all animals, but has a soft spot for all kitties making her one of our loyal cat advocates!

In her spare time she enjoys all things outdoors- kayaking, hiking, camping/backpacking, rock climbing, snowboarding/skiing, and so much more.
Lauren Garlock - Licensed Veterinary Technician Lead

Lauren Garlock - Licensed Veterinary Technician Lead

Lauren was born and raised in Spokane. For as long as she can remember she dreamed of a career in veterinary medicine. After graduating from Cheney High School in 2006, she attended Yakima Valley Community College. In 2008, she graduated with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Veterinary Technology, going on to sit and pass the National Board exam to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician.

Lauren began her time at Garland Animal Clinic during her pre-graduation clinical experience. Upon graduation she was offered a full time position and she never looked back, working up to lead technician. She loves working here because of the great quality of care that all the staff strives to provide for our great clients and their furry kids.

Lauren shares her home with 4 fur babies of their own, their German Shepherd/Great Dane mix Sam, Great Dane Finnick and two horses Blitz and Squirrel. During the summer months she loves being outdoors riding her horse and competing as a member of PSHA, a western gaming/speed event group. In the winter she enjoys curling with the Lilac City Curling Club.
Tina Rohrbach - Licensed Veterinary Technician

Tina Rohrbach - Licensed Veterinary Technician

Tina grew up in Spokane and then moved to Las Vegas shortly after high school. She worked in the medical field for a while before deciding on veterinary medicine. She graduated with an associates degree as a Veterinary Technician from the College of Southern Nevada and worked as a technician in Las Vegas for 13 years before returning to Spokane.

She lives with her husband, their daughter, their Siberian Husky, Fender, and their Doberman Pincher, Persephone.
Jordan Cartwright - Licensed Veterinary Technician

Jordan Cartwright - Licensed Veterinary Technician

Jordan comes to Garland from Western Washington where she graduated from tech school at Pierce College. Although she is new to Spokane, she is a native to Eastern Washington where she has missed the clouds, sky, and the four seasons, especially winter and Christmas! When she is not working with animals she enjoys painting, rollerblading, and spending time with her two dogs. She trains her dalmatians to compete in confirmation, obedience, agility, and more. Jordan even confesses to training her rabbit to do some tricks.
Kathleen Keller-Olsen - Lead Receptionist

Kathleen Keller-Olsen - Lead Receptionist

Kathleen was raised in California, where she graduated from Long Beach State. After graduating and starting a family, she moved to Spokane. Kathleen has a major in Psychology and Child Development which has allowed her to be the director and manager of many child care centers in both California and Washington.

After working with children for eleven years, she transitioned to a career in veterinary medicine after realizing she was ready for a change and could not resist her love for furry friends. She joined the team at Garland Animal Clinic in 2015. Kathleen felt right at home at the clinic with many outgoing personalities, fantastic staff, and the new clients and pets she is able to work with each day. When not working she is enjoying time with her family. She stays busy with her two daughters as well as spending a lot of time with her niece and nephew.
Patti Sykes - Receptionist

Patti Sykes - Receptionist

A graduate of Lewis and Clark High School with fond memories of a childhood in France. Patti has more than 35 years of experience as a veterinary receptionist and assistant. She is an outgoing person and enjoys meeting new people and their pets. She has a lifelong love of animals and enjoys learning new things and keeping abreast of developments in the field of veterinary care.

She loves all animals but particularly cats and is one of our designated cat advocates. When not at work, Patti enjoys spending time with family and caring for her senior kitty, Goldie.
Jordyn Frescas - Receptionist

Jordyn Frescas - Receptionist

Jordyn was raised in the Shadle area and graduated from Shadle Park. She has a background in music playing violin and photography. She is excited to have been hired as a receptionist in preparation for opening the new clinic. Jordyn has tons of experience as clinical support for critical care, customer service.

Garland Animal Clinic is a great place for her, as she thrives in a fast-paced, hospital setting. She believes that all animals, humans and otherwise deserve equal treatment and enjoys meeting dogs of all types. She likes some comic relief now and again. Jordyn loves spending time with her pack outside, land travel and candy.
Heather Huguenin - Receptionist

Heather Huguenin - Receptionist

Heather is a receptionist here at Garland Animal Clinic. Her love for animals started when she was a child, and has stayed with her ever since. She currently has three dogs and one cat. But the neighborhood cats and dogs know where the cool hang out spot is (their yard) – They know where the food is!

She was born in Spokane and enjoys the outdoors, playing sports with the family, hunting, and fishing with her husband and two wonderful kiddos.
Mary Scheets - Receptionist

Mary Scheets - Receptionist

Mary was born in Washington, raised in California and Washington. She starting in customer service in 2002 in California . That’s where she found hospitality is where her career path was going to take her for 15yrs. Then in 2006 she made her way back up to Washington. Where she continued to work in hospitality for a hotel company. In between those 15 years, she got married, was a 4-H leader, rode on a drill team, showed in western pleasure, and did Rodeos. Mary also is a mother of three. Has 2 horses and 3 dogs. All who are her world. Her interest are; hiking with her dogs, watching her kids play sports, going to the lake with her family, and horseback riding
Kelley Keller - Receptionist

Kelley Keller - Receptionist

Kelley grew up all over as part of a military family. She settled in Spokane in 2000 and has been a groomer in the local area since 2003. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two young children, two dogs, and two cats. She often has other dogs at home for pet-sitting. She loves to bake and fatten up the people around her.

Charity Culver - Receptionist

Charity has been a receptionist at Garland Animal Clinic since 2006. Her prior experience involved medical offices and customer service. She loves working here because of all of our awesome clients and coming to work every day to see all the cute animals. Charity enjoys traveling with her daughter Kyah and other family members.
Marial Willford - Veterinary Assistant

Marial Willford - Veterinary Assistant

Marial is our longest employee!! She was born in Minnesota and moved west to Spokane in 1969. She was the first in her family to graduate college. Go Cougs! She graduated with a BS in Computer Science. Marial has known many cats and dogs in her lifetime. She is a member and instructor of the Spokane Dog Training Club, Giant Schnauzer Club of America and Washington State Quilters. In her spare time she enjoys reading (especially mysteries), sewing, and crafting.
Wayne Austin - Veterinary Assistant

Wayne Austin - Veterinary Assistant

Wayne is a lifetime Spokanite and was born at Fairchild Airforce Base. He graduated from University High School and went right into the U.S. Navy. He attended Apollo College studying to be a veterinary assistant and graduated with a 4.0 GPA and perfect attendance.

He chose Garland Animal Clinic because "It's the best clinic in town" and has been here since 2010! Wayne has a 21 year old daughter and enjoys building model cars and fishing in his spare time.

Alyssa Novak - Veterinary Assistant

Alyssa grew up in Spokane but spends most of her time up at Priest Lake with her family and friends. She has been working as a veterinary assistant since 2016 and is currently enrolled in a veterinary technician program. She has a special love for our feline patients, making her one of our loving/loyal cat advocates! Alyssa chose to work with animals because she always knew she had a passion for helping them. 

Her and her boyfriend Brandon live with their yellow lab, golden retriever, and three cats. Together they enjoy camping, dirt biking, and hiking.

Lizz was born in Roseburg, Oregon but raised in Spokane, WA. She is excited to start her new career path with Garland Animal Clinic. She graduated from Carrington College for veterinary assisting with a 3.7 GPA. Lizz has always had a passion for animals and hopes she can help every animal along her way. Lizz has one dog and three cats.
Andrea Davis - Veterinary Assistant

Andrea Davis - Veterinary Assistant

Andrea was born and raised in Spokane. She's wanted to work with animals for as long as she can remember. Andrea took two years of a veterinary assisting program at Newtech Skills Center, where she maintained a 4.0 GPA, perfect attendance, and became the only one of 30 students to graduate as a certified veterinary assistant. While working in a clinic, her strong passion for the field made her decide to continue her education studying Veterinary Technology through Penn Foster's online program, as she hope to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician! 

When not working or studying, she enjoys spending time with her little sister Evelyn, staying at her family cabin on Twin Lake Idaho, snowboarding, and hanging out with her "zoo" of pets!

Andrew was born and raised in Spokane. He is currently attending Montana State University with hopes of becoming a veterinarian. Andrew works at Garland Animal Clinic during his summers and holidays home to gain experience in the field. Growing up around veterinarians he has always known that he wanted to become a veterinarian. He enjoys working at Garland Animal Clinic because he is passionate about the care provided to so many animals.

During his weekends he works another job and spends time up at Priest Lake, enjoys fishing, skiing, and just enjoying life!
Marissa Poquette - Kennel Assistant

Marissa Poquette - Kennel Assistant

Marissa is a junior at Mt. Spokane Highschool and enrolled in the running start program at Spokane Falls Community College. She spent many days in the clinic helping out before making it official. Marissa loves helping animals in any way possible and making sure they are as comfortable as can be.

Marissa enjoys competitive cheerleading, being outdoors, and spending time with friends and family!

Alfreda has lived in Spokane her entire life. She is a student at Shadle Park High School and will be graduating in 2020, she wants to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.
